See Where Other Paths Have Lead

Mikhayla

I became a registered nurse at the end of 2018 when I completed my pathology collection training. I worked as a registered nurse for one year in paediatric ICU and then one year in neonatal ICU. I then got into medical school; I’m now in my second year of studying medicine at USYD. Studying at LTT gave me good venepuncture skills. The course was useful and has been very beneficial to my nursing and medical training. I’m currently focusing on studying for medical school, 2.5 years to go!

Before studying at LTT I had experience in quality assurance. Since August 2021 I’ve been working in laboratory as a lab technician. LTT can be effective for others like me, who have qualifications from overseas but no local experience in Australia.

I gained employment with QML Pathology two months after finishing the course with LTT in 2018. I have been there for 4 years now and work at one of the busiest clinics. I do blood collection, urine drug screens, hair follicle and holder monitor. Training with LTT gave me the first steps to understanding the role of a pathology collector. The course was great and I really loved the practical side. I always recommend LTT to anyone interested.

Since finishing my course at LTT in 2019, life has been full of learning adventures. I worked for sonic health doing coal board medicals then moved on to QML pathology who I’ve been with for two years now. I’ve learnt so much since leaving LTT. I’ve completed advanced training and can now confidently do arterial blood gases, paediatric bloods Neonatal heel pricks and so much more.

Completing the course at LTT provided the opportunity to learn the correct collection techniques and how to adapt when required. The trainers are absolutely wonderful! And full of knowledge. The staff are also very friendly and helpful where they can be. I would recommend LTT to anyone looking at becoming a collector.

I immediately got some part time relief work at the schools I did work experience at, from there are got permanent part-time and then full time at one of the schools. I’m a Biology Laboratory Technician in a senior high school. The course was a great refresher of my lab skills.

I gained employment straight from work placement in 2020. I was literally interviewed on my last day and started work the following Monday. I‘ve been employed with the same company since graduating, have almost completed a Cert IV in Lab Tech and have been in my own clinic doing pathology collecting for 18 months. Bleed skills were the main skill I needed and mastered with LTT.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with LTT and met a lot of lovely people, some of which are still good friends today. I’m hoping to start a Cert IV in Training and Assessing and would like to one day teach others how to be the best Pathology Collectors they can be.”

Straight after graduating in 2020 I gained employment. It has been amazing. I’m now working in emergency and doing cannulation for doctors. Everything I learnt at LTT is relevant to what I do now and it set me up to succeed in my position. The course was brilliant, I went into the workforce confident that I had the right skills to do well.”

I applied as soon as I left LTT and found a job within a month. I completed my placement with the same company I was employed by. I was employed with QML at the start of 2020 and started out just doing blood tests then we started doing COVID-19 swabs and I was on the front line for all of 2020.

Training at LTT taught me how to collect blood samples correctly and safely, how to use PPE, how to distinguish which tests go to which department and how to read a request form. I absolutely loved my time at LTT and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to look into the pathology field.”

I have been employed with Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology since my training which was 4.5 years ago. I’m full time and have worked with many fantastic people since I left LTT. I have met the most beautiful people along the way. I’ve progressed in my job to now doing advanced paediatrics.

I never thought at the age of 52 would I change my whole career from a saleswoman to a phlebotomist! I have learnt more about how our bodies work and how important our blood is to our health. I have found out many amazing things about our blood system. I loved the training at LTT. It was the start of a new career for me. The Trainers at LTT are exceptional.

I highly recommended LTT to many people, especially those who would like to change their career whether it be laboratory or phlebotomy… it’s easier than you think!”

I gained employment within one month after completing my workplace placement in 2020. I was employed by PathWest straight from completing my course and started work at Fiona Stanley Hospital, on the wards and in the clinic, as well as Casuarina and Bandyup Prisons in phlebotomy. I think learning hand hygiene was very important!
