Recognition of Prior Learning
At LTT, we understand that practical experience is just as valuable as classroom learning. Our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer options are designed to help professionals in the laboratory and pathology sectors formalise their existing skills without having to repeat training.
RPL is an assessment process that validates the skills and knowledge you have already gained through prior study, work experience, or volunteer roles.
Benefits of RPL
Securing formal recognition for your expertise is a strategic way to advance your career. Ensuring your skills align with current industry benchmarks can provide several key advantages:
Accelerate Career Progression
Formalising your skills prepares you for promotions or transitions into new roles. According to national VET data, the majority of students who pursue RPL do so specifically to gain a better job or advance in their current workplace.
Improve job security
A nationally recognised qualification provides tangible proof of your capabilities to current and future employers.
The RPL Assessment Process
Our training and assessment team will evaluate your background, including past qualifications, relevant industry skills, and workplace experience. This information is mapped against the required competencies for your chosen qualification.
You can receive recognition for any units where you can successfully demonstrate competency. From there, you will only need to complete the remaining modules to finalise your qualification.
Credit Transfer
Credit transfer provides formal recognition for previous accredited study that is equivalent to units within your nominated LTT qualification. If you have already completed relevant formal training elsewhere, you may be eligible to have those units credited directly to your current course. Eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis and is subject to the currency and equivalency of your prior study.
Benefits of Credit Transfer
If you have already invested time in formal studies, a credit transfer ensures that work is recognised where applicable.
Reduce your study load
Avoid repeating units you have already successfully completed, allowing you to focus on new learning.
Potentially Reduce Your Required Unit Count
Where a credit transfer is approved, the number of units you need to complete may be reduced. The overall impact on your study duration will depend on your individual study plan, course structure, and the units granted — this will vary from student to student.
Build on Your Foundation
Credit transfers allow you to seamlessly progress from lower-level certificates to advanced qualifications using the building blocks you have already established.
Applying for RPL or Credit Transfer
To apply for RPL or a credit transfer, you must submit your application prior to the commencement of your studies.
When submitting your application, you will need to provide supporting documentation. This typically includes:
- A current resume demonstrating a minimum of two years of relevant industry experience (completed within the last three years), including contact details for managers who can verify your skills.
- Certified copies of previous qualifications, records of results, statements of attainment, or a USI Transcript.
- Any completed certifications or licences relevant to your industry.
