Jessica MacQueen

I work full time at SGS. The opportunity to complete the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills (specialising in coal) while working was provided by my employer.

Overall, my training experience was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the training. My favourite part was the knowledge provided and the friendliness of the trainers.

I’m now focusing on improving my current role and hoping to study the Certificate IV. Thank you, Matt and Rob, for making the hard parts of this course easy for me to understand and making the training a fun experience. I hope to continue onto more study with you in the future. Thank you!

I was a Geological Technician working on various projects. Now I am managing a lab. My employer put me through the Diploma of Laboratory Technology at LTT. My training was good, Gavan was very experienced and a highly capable teacher. I enjoyed the flexibility to work on the program in my own time.

I’m a Senior Laboratory Technician at Colas. My employer put me through the Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations with LTT. My training experience was 10/10.

Working through the assessments and answering the questions made me realise that everyday tasks in a lab are quite vast. I’m now focusing on continually improving my knowledge and role as a Lab Supervisor. My career goals are to climb the ladder, maybe one day become a lab manager.

My Trainer/Assessor was Marjan, she is an excellent assessor with great knowledge and organisational skills.

I’m a full time senior laboratory technician and completed the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills qualification with LTT through my employer. The course was worth it – it really helped to further my knowledge and skills. I enjoyed challenging myself with new things to learn. I’m now focusing on starting my Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques! I hope to continue on with my studies and step into a higher leadership role within my workplace.

I was working in retail for 5 years and hated it, I was wanting to do something I could make into a career instead.

I chose to study the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques with LTT because they specialise lab and pathology training, so I felt it was the better choice. It was also not as expensive or as long as other options as well.

I had an amazing time at LTT! My training was excellent, I loved every class! It’s so fun and at the same time super interesting. I feel like I’ve learned a lot. All the assessments were so fun and interesting, it didn’t feel like a struggle at any point. Any time I didn’t understand something Sanju, our trainer, was so helpful and friendly!

I really enjoyed when we did actual soil sample collecting in our own yard or when we did titration, watching the solution change colour and the friendly competition of trying to get the best result was so much fun! The course exceeded my expectations, it was just a great experience all in all! LTT has helped give me confidence in my math and science skills and I’ve made awesome friends along the way as well. I feel very confident to start my career as a lab technician, though I will definitely miss the classroom at LTT!

Before studying at LTT I was working in retail in a chocolate shop. Nothing to do with a laboratory! I wanted a change and to find a more professional job.

Back in Venezuela I completed a degree in Chemical Engineering. I didn’t work as a chemical engineer as I decided to go out a travel the world. I ended up in Australia. Now that I am settled here in Perth, I decided it was time to go for it.

I was looking into laboratory courses online. After reading all the units of the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course, I decided this was exactly what I was looking for.

The course was really good. Even though I have a chemical engineering background, I learned different things that I have never seen before. The course was so hands-on. There was a lot of practical learning that you can’t learn from a book or online. You get to practice everything you would end up doing in a job.

I loved titrations. I love the pink colour! It is so pretty.

My trainer, Sahar, was really useful. She was so helpful all the time. She made sure we understood what she was explaining.

I have just finished my qualification. With some networking I have now got a FIFO job in the mines for Kalium Potash. They were looking for a laboratory technician, so I’ll start off in a junior position. They are just finishing setting up the brand-new laboratory so I will be one of the first people working in the lab! It is all related to what I have learned here in the lab.

It was a good call to study with LTT. I am really happy and looking forward the future!

I have been working as an interior designer/3D visualiser, but I wanted to explore other opportunities and open myself to more jobs on the market. I used to be in the environmental field in Russia, so I would like to try and find an environmental lab job.

I heard about LTT through my friend. We decided to attend an information session to find out more info about the course. We decided to sign up because the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course can open many doors for you in quite a lot of industries.

Sahar is a great trainer; she gives great examples from her own experiences. She is very knowledgeable. I found LTT was a great environment to study in. I enjoyed the practicals during the course. Learning how to perform the tests was quite enjoyable too. I had some work experience at Bio Science for a couple of weeks. It was really useful to see how the lab operates and what was required in terms of lab practices. I was able to see how they collect and prepare samples. They let me perform a few tests too.

I completed a Microbiology qualification in India and worked in that field for nearly 11 years. I came to Australia as a student. My passion has always been to work in a lab. I tried to complete a lab qualification at TAFE but the courses there take a lot longer.

Sahar is the best teacher; she is very friendly. I didn’t feel stressed with Sahar as my trainer. I feel as though there is a lot of opportunity for LTT students. I love coming into LTT. It is the best thing, even from the first step in the door at reception you are greeted with a smile.

I have been fortunate enough to have two weeks of work experience at a Senior High School where I have been helping with the practicals for the year 7 – 10 students. The lab technician working at the school used to be an LTT student, so I felt very supported.

I think the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course is very useful and is a great way to get back into the lab industry.

I have been offered a full-time position with QML Haematology Department as a Lab Assistant. I am the only one who got offered a full-time position out of 250 applicants, and one other successful applicant got offered part-time.

I feel very grateful and also excited of getting this position. I started my one-on-one training with my department supervisor and it will last for another 5 weeks, however, my manager said I’ll finish training and get signed off early because I have exceeded her expectations!

I am already learning the training content for week three in week one. I am really enjoying the work I am doing so far. It’s quite fun and interesting, operating sample machines, doing blood film slides and staining, operating computer programs etc. I am thinking to continue to study a laboratory science degree in one or two years time. I think this is the line of work that I want to be in. I’d like to share this news with you as you are such a wonderful teacher and educator. I want to say thank you for teaching us. I wouldn’t have got this position without my Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques qualification through LTT.

I studied chemical engineering back home in Zimbabwe, but I was working in South Africa for the last 12 years. I moved to Australia two years ago but hadn’t been able to get a job using my qualification. I decided to do the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course at LTT.

I think training at LTT is the best decision I have made. I have learnt a lot and it has helped with my confidence. I have really enjoyed working and learning in the lab. Sahar is the best teacher; she is so kind. She makes everything seem easy. Our class was made up of so many different students with different backgrounds and skill levels, but Sahar was able to handle all of us. She is so patient and makes everyone feel comfortable. I had a job interview this week and they told me “anyone trained by Sahar they trust.” So I start as a laboratory assistant next week! I am so grateful for Sahar and LTT, and my experience here.
