LTT

Kim Collins

I am a people person and like a challenge, so I was adamant to continue my journey in healthcare. I came across the Certificate III in Pathology Collection through LTT as an option. I toyed with the idea for a while as change has always been a scary thing for me. Eventually I took the leap and attended an information session at the Brisbane training centre. Instantly I felt this was what I needed to do and signed up straight away to begin my new adventure.

The course itself was overwhelming at first – as are all new and unknown things. I was fortunate enough to have Mirta and Toni as my Trainers. I enjoyed the classroom-based learning. It was an intimate environment and I felt comfortable to approach my trainer when needed. The online course components were easy to navigate around, and I was able to keep in touch with my trainers whether I was at the training centre or at home.

Theory isn’t one of my strengths, but Mirta made it fun! She kept me interested and made it as interactive as it could be. The practical part of the course was so beneficial. It allowed us to gain hands on experience needed in the industry. We were able to explore our horizons, learn new skills and techniques whilst moving outside of our comfort zones.

I absolutely enjoyed every aspect of the course and would recommend it to anyone looking into studying pathology.

On completion of my study, I was fortunate enough to land a job with Sullivan and Nicolaides Pathology. Changing jobs in the middle of a pandemic was taking a risk, but I did anyway. I started off as a hotel swabber, then eventually moved my way into the clinics as a reliever.

LTT set me up with the skills I needed to be successful in this industry. One year on and I am now working full-time in a busy clinic, confidently and independently, and I love it. When I look back, taking a leap into a new adventure that I was so hesitant about paid off in the end. I see myself working as a pathology collector for a longtime to come.
