Real student review: Juliet

I am a paediatric doctor from the Philippines who has been out of work for 12 years.

I compared LTT Brisbane with two other training providers and decided that LTT offers the best option for me. The course was the right duration, accessible by train (since I do not drive and I live in Beerwah), and the staff were very supportive.

My training experience was excellent! My favourite part of the course was the hands on learning of phlebotomy. I have done it a million times in the past since I used to work in a major maternity/paediatric hospital (with NICU) in Manila. But our tools were different then. So, I needed to reorient myself and adjust.

Prior to completing the face-to-face part of our course, 4Cyte Pathology visited the training centre and conducted interviews. It was a great opportunity to meet people who work in the pathology industry. Through that initiative, I was hired as a collector. I was initially assigned as a COVID-19 Collector and later on assigned a pathology collection room at Beerwah (my local doctors) surgery, where I completed my 100 collects. I was then assigned at Medpods Maroochydore on my own. I have collected various samples, such as blood, urine/faeces, sputum, nasopharyngeal swab, urea breath test, oral glucose tolerance test. I also conduct pretest sample preparation (centrifuge, aliquot, freezing).

I am enjoying my current role, though there are times when I still miss my past experience in neonatology. Despite this, I am planning to keep on working as a collector for the next few years.

I am truly grateful and privileged that I made the right choice in choosing LTT for my training. I will surely recommend LTT for anyone interested in doing sample collection training. LTT is a great training facility, thank you very much.
