LTT Graduate Success Story – Kaori at VitalTrace

Landing a lab job straight out of the training room might sound like a dream, but for LTT graduate Kaori, it became a reality within days of finishing her course. After hearing about an opportunity from their trainer and attending a presentation at LTT, she went home, polished her resume, and applied that same night. The next day she was face-to-face with the employer at LTT’s Perth Campus, and shortly after, was in a one-hour interview where she drew directly on the technical skills, safety knowledge and confidence she built at LTT to secure the role.

We asked Kaori to share her LTT experience and advice for other Lab students:

How has the LTT training supported your development in the workplace?

LTT has greatly supported my development in the workplace by enhancing my knowledge, skills, and confidence in a real work environment. Beyond the specific laboratory tasks, the training equipped me with the ability to adapt quickly and confidently at the start of my role.

I apply what I learned at LTT every day, from risk management to equipment calibration and solution preparation, combining both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory techniques. As a result, I can contribute more effectively to my team and perform my tasks with greater accuracy and efficiency.

How did you find your current role?

I first learned about the opportunity at VitalTrace from my trainer, who informed me about their upcoming presentation at LTT. As soon as I got home, I sent my resume and a cover letter to the company and began researching VitalTrace to better understand their work and values.

The following day, I attended their presentation at LTT, where they were actively looking for an employee. This gave me the chance to ask questions and speak with their team directly. Shortly after, I was offered a one-hour interview. I made sure to prepare thoroughly for the interview to present myself as a strong candidate.

Which key skills or knowledge from LTT have you applied most in your daily work?

The key skills I have applied most in my daily work are the technical laboratory skills I developed at LTT. In particular, micro-pipetting, using a pH meter, and solution preparation have been essential for ensuring accuracy and consistency in my tasks. These skills allow me to maintain precise measurements and follow proper laboratory procedures in my day-to-day work.

In addition, I apply strong safety practices, including handling chemicals safely, working with toxic substances, and managing waste and risks effectively. These skills are critical to maintaining a safe working environment.

Teamwork is also an essential part of my role. I regularly coordinate with my team members, support one another, and communicate effectively to ensure smooth and efficient production processes.

What are the main skills or knowledge areas you developed at LTT that you’ve used in your job?

The main knowledge areas I developed at LTT that I use in my role include risk management, Work Health and Safety (WHS), and ISO compliance. These help me identify hazards, follow proper procedures, and ensure my work meets required quality and safety standards.

I also developed strong technical skills in using and calibrating laboratory equipment, such as pH meters and analytical balances, as well as preparing solutions accurately. These skills ensure precise and reliable results in my daily work.

In addition, I apply calculation skills, including standard deviation and dilution formulas, to support data accuracy and maintain consistency in laboratory processes.

Can you share an example of how LTT training helped you shine in a workplace task?

During my training at LTT, I repeatedly practiced practical tasks like pH meter calibration and labeling solutions. While these may seem like basic step-by-step skills, they are essential in a laboratory setting. The solid foundation I gained at LTT allowed me to perform these tasks accurately and efficiently, which impressed my team leaders and colleagues and helped me contribute confidently from day one.

What’s one thing from your LTT experience you’re most grateful for?

I am grateful for many aspects of my experience at LTT, but most of all, I am thankful for the job opportunity it gave me, which became an important new chapter in my life. I also sincerely appreciate my trainer, Ms. Sahar Aljondi, for her constant encouragement and support throughout my studies at LTT.

What advice would you share with current LTT students based on your journey?

I would tell current LTT students that every unit you learn will be valuable in your future workplace. The knowledge and skills you gain now will never go to waste. Although it’s only six months of study, this time is precious and can serve as a ticket to start an exciting new chapter in your career.
