We’re shining a light on Jozette Jones and Lara Jackson’s qualification completions and industry recognition, alongside the support of their trainer, Alyson Wilson.
In the story below, Alyson shares their achievements and reflects on what access to training means for students in rural communities. She also touches on her own personal journey.

Longreach – Tiny Town, Huge Significance
By Alyson Wilson (QLD Trainer Assessor)
A recent training visit took me to Longreach, a small rural town located in Central Western QLD, known as the heart of Outback. This town is the home of Qantas with a Qantas Jumbo Jet dominating the skyline from kilometres away at the Qantas Founders Museum and the home of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame.
More importantly, it is the home of two LTT students Jozette Jones (Cert IV in Laboratory Techniques – Clinical Laboratory) and Lara Jackson (Cert III in Pathology Assistance), who both work at Pathology QLD based at the Longreach Hospital.

Jozette and Lara have been a pleasure to teach and regardless of how remote they are geographically they have been so dedicated to their training programs in Pathology. Their training achievements this year have been outstanding, whilst they have both completed their qualifications with LTT, they have also both been recognised for further training awards:
Jozette Jones was awarded the 2026 Pathology Qld Karen Gilliland Perpetual Award
Lara Jackson is a 2026 School Based Trainee of the Year Nominee
Congratulations Jozette and Lara on these outstanding achievements!
As an advocate of Women in STEM this training journey with these students has been one close to heart for me, as I grew up in a small rural town and understand how hard education barriers can be, in my case it meant leaving my hometown to gain the education I was looking for. Today we live in the world of technology and now we can bring education to any corner of the globe.

We focus on developing the skills employees need in their current roles. Those in quality assurance, quality control or technical positions may benefit from a formal laboratory qualification, while others may benefit from targeted training in specific areas.
This is a reminder that no matter where you are in the world, education has the power to open doors, break barriers, and create opportunities. With knowledge at your fingertips and a willingness to learn, you can grow, achieve, and excel from anywhere. Your location does not define your potential, and your circumstances do not have to limit your dreams. The possibilities are endless when you embrace education and believe in what you can achieve.
It means so much to all of us, particularly in campus-land where we hear about these places but can’t quite comprehend the remote nature of these communities and how much support like this means to them!
We would love to hear more of these stories! We have so many travelling far and wide to bring critical learning to communities right around Australia. Please share them with us. Either send to your manager, or marketing@ltt.edu.au.
