About
This qualification equips students with practical skills in planning and conducting laboratory field work, recording and presenting data, performing basic tests and standard calibrations, maintaining a laboratory and more. The course focuses on safety and aims to prepare students for entry level jobs as laboratory personnel, including laboratory assistants, instrument operators, and more.

Duration, location & delivery
Face-to-face classes are held at our training centre. We're a four-minute walk from the Montague St. tram stop.
Level 1/85 Buckhurst St, South Melbourne
The total course duration is 10 weeks. Class times are 8:30am-3:30pm on Wednesdays to Fridays. Classes are occasionally held on different days of the week due to public holidays.
Fees
$4,680 - fee-for-service
To secure your place in class, a $350 deposit is payable upon enrolment (cash and EFT facilities are available). This amount is deducted from the total course fee. Weekly, fortnightly or monthly direct debit payment plans are available to distribute payments of the remaining balance ($4,330) over the 10 week period.

Assessment
Students are assessed on their performance in practical and written assessments.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credit transfer processes are available. Please contact our team on 1300 588 588 to discuss these options further if you believe you may be eligible for RPL or credit transfer (for equivalent units of competency completed previously). A copy of the original transcript must be provided if applying for a credit transfer.
Should you withdraw before completing the course and a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units of competency achieved.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the MSL30122 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills, which will carry the Nationally Recognised Training logo.
Requirements
No prior qualifications are required to study the MSL30122 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. While there are no formal entry requirements for the course, a general interest in mathematics and chemistry is recommended, and basic computer literacy is advantageous.
On the basis of industry recommendation, and to improve employment prospects, students must be at least 17 years old to undertake the qualification.
As part of the enrolment process, a comprehensive pre-training review is conducted to capture current competencies (including language, literacy and numeracy). This process also aids in identifying individual learning styles and any support services that may be required so that training delivery can be tailored accordingly.
Students are required to wear closed-in shoes throughout the course, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as instructed during lab work.

The highlight of this course with LTT was that my trainer visited me at my workplace and the training was face-to-face.
I attended their Open Day to explore what they have to offer. I was thoroughly impressed with the environment they had as well as how friendly the staff were.
My experience with my trainers were incredible, they were devoted for the success of the class. My classmates were great to be around as we all had different work and cultural backgrounds and shared our experiences.
My experience with LTT was brilliant. The training of face-to-face and the booklets were enjoyable.
I really enjoyed my course, as I found the trainers supportive, engaging and dedicated to their job. I thoroughly enjoyed my course, especially learning about microscopes and preparing/standardising solutions.
Six months after finishing the course at LTT, I landed a role at a mine site in WA working in Metallurgy Department.
I‘ve worked as a Laboratory Assistant at SGS, in the Central Specimen Reception Area at PathWest and a Laboratory Assistant at QEII.
My trainer helped improve my resume and provided me guidance on how to apply for jobs, and I was successful in my application for STATS Australia.
The course gave me the opportunity to improve my time management, problem solving, laboratory-based training and communication skills.
I love chemistry and this course made me feel more confident about what I am doing in this industry.
After finishing the course, I have climbed the company ladder. The course helped me to develop more precise and accurate documentation.
Next I want to complete my diploma with LTT and TAE (training and assessor) to become a trainer.
I choose to study at LTT because its close to home and they have a great choice of class availability.
My favourite part has been learning the UV-Vis spectrophotometer, this knowledge has helped me get a job in a laboratory at ALS as a Senior Laboratory Assistant.
I went for a job interview at SGS. By the end of the interview, they offered me the position!

My favourite part was the group environment, learning more techniques and gaining a better understanding of how to be a better trainer by offering a more holistic approach.
