See What Our Students Have to Say

May Marshall

came from Philippines with a business administration background. I graduated with a major in banking and payments but worked in a social work job. After moving to Australia, I was looking for a job that would allow me to have a balance between work and family as I have two young kids.

I have been contemplating this lab course at LTT Perth for a few years. Now my youngest is at kindy, I have had the time to commit to studying! It’s the right time for me.

I’ve always liked physics and I don’t mind maths. The Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course was really good. There are bits that are hard, but with the help of the Trainers it’s not too bad. It was a fun experience for me. We had a smaller group which made it a great environment for learning. Working in a laboratory was new for me, the practicals were actually fun and there was nothing to be afraid of.

I’ve now got a job at ALS Geochemistry in Malaga as Senior Laboratory Assistant for carbon/sulphur analysis and chromatography. I actually started the job 3 days before our graduation day. To date, they are training me in the FA-AA, which is the fire assay atomic absorption instrument. I’m really enjoying it, there’s lots of things to learn and remember but physically it is an easy job. I still have the energy to cook food once it get home, clean the house and help kids go to bed. My Trainer, Sahar, said that they are looking to train me as well in ICP-OES or ICP Ms, which is another instrument but more complicated to operate.

My supervisor at ALS has already put me in to Diploma of Laboratory Technology course with LTT too. I’ve already told all my friends to do this course!

My background is quite varied, I have been a chef and a remedial massage therapist. However I’ve always been really interested in science and geology. I found LTT’s website after searching online. I didn’t want to do a 5-year chemistry degree at university, and noticed that LTT Perth’s Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course was only 6 months.

I really enjoyed this course; it gave me everything I was looking for in terms of maths and a scientific point of view. Before enrolling in this course, I couldn’t do divisions. Since doing this course I have gone from basic maths to completing complex calculations in the lab. It was a bit scary for me at the beginning but Sahar, our trainer, and she was so helpful and patient.

I enjoyed the practical laboratory experience, especially getting confident working with mineral acids. We performed mineral analysis which I really loved.

Since finishing the course, I have had a few interviews with laboratories. I have just accepted a fire assay role with ALS!

I work in the road construction industry, and my employer enrolled me in the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course with LTT Melbourne. My trainer, Gavan Canavan, was very helpful and has helped me to improve myself. I’m now focusing on improving my position in the workplace.

Before enrolling at LTT Melbourne I was working as a production operator. I decided to study the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course to upgrade my skills and get job in same field. My training was a very good experience. I learned so many things from our trainer, Priya. Every topic was interesting. I hope to work in a food laboratory.

I have been working in pathology for nearly 20 years. I have also partially completed Archaeology degree.
I heard about LTT through work. I decided to study to further my education, be better at my job, and to pass new skills onto my colleagues.
My training was excellent, it helped me to understand more about other departments. Especially with training new staff, I have learnt many new invaluable skills through the course. My favourite part was the group environment, learning more techniques and gaining a better understanding of how to be a better trainer by offering a more holistic approach.
My goal is to be a training coordinator at work and to further my study in pathology. I want to take the skills I have learnt in the course and apply many of them to the teaching of new students.
Caroline was a wonderful Trainer who was always there for any questions and support. The sessions were always interesting, clear and succinct.”

I am a paediatric doctor from the Philippines who has been out of work for 12 years.

I compared LTT Brisbane with two other training providers and decided that LTT offers the best option for me. The course was the right duration, accessible by train (since I do not drive and I live in Beerwah), and the staff were very supportive.

My training experience was excellent! My favourite part of the course was the hands on learning of phlebotomy. I have done it a million times in the past since I used to work in a major maternity/paediatric hospital (with NICU) in Manila. But our tools were different then. So, I needed to reorient myself and adjust.

You’ve scrolled deeper than Walter’s underground lab. That’s dedication.
