This qualification is delivered by LTT Group Pty Ltd (RTO 51621) and reflects the role of pathology assistants and specimen reception staff in laboratories.
Duration, Location & Delivery
- Approximately 12-24 months
Our training is competency based, and qualifications can be completed at a pace that suits the organisation and the individual. Training is delivered on-site in the workplace. Recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credit transfer processes are available for eligible students.

There are 14 total units of competency in this qualification.
8 core units:
- BSBCUS201 Deliver a service to customers
- BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
- BSBWOR204 Use business technology
- CHCCOM005 Communicate and work effectively in health or community services
- CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
- HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
- HLTPAT006 Receive, prepare and dispatch pathology specimens
- HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
6 elective units:
- BSBITU301 Create and use databases
- HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems
- MSL953001A Receive and prepare samples for testing
- MSL933005 Maintain the laboratory/field workplace fit for purpose
- MSL933006 Contribute to the achievement of quality objectives
- MSL933008 Perform calibration checks on equipment and assist with its maintenance
