About

This qualification is delivered by LTT Group Pty Ltd (RTO 51621) and equips students with practical skills in planning and conducting laboratory field work, recording and presenting data, performing basic tests and standard calibrations, maintaining a laboratory and more.

The course focuses on safety and aims to prepare students for entry level jobs as laboratory personnel, including laboratory assistants, instrument operators, and more.

Duration

Classes are held 2 days a week over 16 weeks. Class times are 8.30am-3pm on either Mondays and Tuesdays or Thursdays and Fridays (depending on intake) at our South Brisbane training centre. Classes are occasionally held on different days of the week due to public holidays.

Fees

Course fees depend on individual eligibility for government support. If you are unsure whether you qualify for a government supported training place, please contact our team on 1300 588 588. Credit transfers may reduce the course fee payable.

For students eligible for government support

The MSL30118 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills is partially funded by the Queensland Government for students who meet the eligibility criteria under the Certificate 3 Guarantee program.

  • $550 - concession student co-contribution fee, payable upon enrolment

  • $650 - non-concession student co-contribution fee, payable upon enrolment

Co-contribution fees represent the total cost to the student to enrol in, undertake training, and be awarded the qualification. Students will no longer be eligible for a government subsidised training place under the Certificate 3 Guarantee once they complete a certificate III level vocational qualification.

For students not eligible for government support

  • $2,952 - fee for service student tuition fee

To secure your place in class, a $300 deposit is payable upon enrolment (cash and EFT facilities are available). This amount is deducted from the total course fee. Fortnightly direct debit payment plans are available to distribute payments of the remaining balance ($2,652) over an 16 week period (8 x fortnightly payments of $331.50).

Our refund policy can be viewed here.

Assessment

Students are assessed on their performance in practical and written assessments.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credit transfer processes are available for eligible students. Please contact our team on 1300 588 588 to discuss these options further if you believe you may be eligible for RPL or credit transfer (for equivalent units of competency completed previously). A copy of the original transcript must be provided if applying for a credit transfer.

Should you withdraw before completing the course and / or your clinical work placement hours, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units of competency achieved.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the MSL30118 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills, which will carry the Nationally Recognised Training logo.

Requirements

No prior qualifications are required to study the MSL30118 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. While there are no formal entry requirements for the course, a general interest in mathematics and chemistry is recommended, and basic computer literacy is advantageous.

On the basis of industry recommendation, and to improve employment prospects, students must be at least 15 years old to undertake the qualification.

Students are required to wear closed-in shoes throughout the course, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as instructed during lab work.

As part of the enrolment process, a comprehensive pre-training review is conducted to capture current competencies (including language, literacy and numeracy).
